The warm temperatures and rain in the city don’t always signal the end of the ski season – there’s still some decent snow and very cheap tickets to be found in the mountains. And even though the skiing may be a little less than stellar, the tradeoffs make a weekend trip worthwhile.
In addition to being able to ski in shorts, resorts are doing everything they can to extend the season and pull weekend visitors in. Check out some of the concerts and events we’ve found going on over the next couple of weeks.
Killington, VT >> snoe.down 2010 (March 26 – 28, 2010)
Another large event we found in the northeast, snoe.down is an established spring music event that happens in central Vermont each year. Suitable for all ages, snoe.down is a weekend of jam-grass-esque performances at the K-1 Lodge, Bear Mountain Lodge and the Wobbly Barn. Moe., Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings, Hot Day at the Zoo and Railroad Earth, the Bridge, the McLovins and the Heavy Pets are just a few of the names expected. Moe will be performing live on the snow at the Bud Light Mogul Challence on Saturday afternoon.
Sugarloaf, ME >> Bud Light Reggae Fest 2010 (April 15 – 18, 2010)
Over the past few years, Sugarloaf has really built a name for itself as a major indie music venue in New England – and the annual the Bud Light Reggae Fest is the crowning event. The largest spring festival in the Northeast, this four day event will draw crowds of upwards of 12,000 people to the tiny town of Kingfield for great music, great skiing, and plenty of beer. It doesn’t hurt that April is one of the best months at Sugarloaf, when there’s usually enough coverage for its legendary snowfields to open up.
Winter Park, CO >> Spring Blast 2010 (April 17 – 18, 2010)
The second set of this four day event brings thousands of concertgoers to the village plaza at Winter Park to witness the “Folkadelic*Jamgrass*Funkplosion” that is “Home”, a popular Denver area band. Day two brings “Lotus”, an eclectic five member ensemble to the snow. Pond skimming, barbecues, and on-snow events will be happening all weekend long, too.
